Drama Program
Acting classes develop confidence and encourage imaginative exploration and discovery. The program is focused on effective storytelling. Classes cover: theatre games, terminology, improvisation, monologue, devised and scene work, including script analysis. Performances are structured to incorporate fundamental building blocks and allow the student to grow with each show. Drama is especially beneficial for an introverted child. It also aids in building positive self - esteem and open creativity in a safe atmosphere where students are encouraged to grow. It's a fantastic program providing the skills for acting, public speaking and role playing while laying the ground work for students who wish to pursue drama in college and professionally. SISA theatre grads have received BFA and BA degrees from such nationally ranked universities as: Ball State University, Indiana University, Shenandoah University, Northern Kentucky University, Vincennes University and Stephens College. Professional work credits include: Kentucky Shakespeare, Stage One, Kentucky Center for the Arts, National Tours, Independent Films, Regional Semi Professional Theatre as well as work as teachers, actors, stage managers and directors. Performance opportunities are provided each semester. Classes are instructed by Debbie Endris and Grace Robertson.
Supplies and Dress Code for Class:
Due to the athletic nature of acting, actors should wear clothes that allow for full range of motion. Clothing should be solid black and avoid distractions (no writing or images) to create a sense of uniformity among the ensemble. Actor "Blacks" consist of a solid black shirt and solid black long pants. Clothing should be unrestrictive such as: yoga pants, sweats, leggings, lounge pants, etc. No jeans, shorts or casual slacks are permitted. Students are also barefoot or socked feet. No shoes worn for class. Students are required to bring to class each week: pencil with eraser, journal for notes, assigned scripts, monologues and homework assignments.
